This edition of Pyrkon promises to be a unique opportunity to meet the master of comics!
Let’s get to know Darick W. Robertson and his work
Darick W. Robertson is a respected American comic book artist with an impressive body of work. Over the years, he has attracted many devoted fans thanks to his distinctive style and love of detail. He was born in 1967 and has been fascinated by comic books since his youth. He began his professional career as a teenager, working on various projects for smaller publishing houses, and has continually developed as an artist.
Robertson’s work is very versatile, as it ranges from dark, anti-utopian worlds to classic superhero universes. He has experience working on original series, as well as on external projects – both Marvel characters such as Wolverine and New Warriors, and DC Comics characters, including the Batman and Justice League series. He is also the co-creator of incredibly popular series such as The Boys, Transmetropolitan and Happy!.
Co-authored projects
Darick has made a name for himself as the co-creator of visionary and unconventional series, with each of his titles reflecting a unique style and daring to tackle controversial topics. With this approach, the artist has become a permanent part of the modern comics’ canon. Here are some of his most popular works:
👉 Transmetropolitan – co-created with writer Warren Ellis, the series tells the story of Spider Jerusalem, a futurist journalist who fights corruption and abuse in a dystopian reality. Robertson’s realistic, crude line work perfectly captures the brutal, intense atmosphere of the futuristic city.
👉 The Boys – is a brutal, satirical vision of the world of superheroes who are more anti-heroes than heroes. The comic was created in collaboration with screenwriter Garth Ennis and it started a new chapter in Robertson’s work with its unique approach to superhero themes. In this title, the creators presented the dark side of having so much power and authority. Thanks to its immense popularity, the comic book lived to see an adaptation in the form of a TV series.
👉 Happy! – Darick has teamed up with Grant Morrison to create a dark, surreal tale of a former police officer who, after an accident, starts seeing a blue unicorn. Happy! stands out for its innovative combination of humor and the macabre and the creation of an exceptionally disturbing atmosphere. A TV series was created based on this comic as well.
We can safely say that Darick is an artist who has been combining mainstream popularity with original style and narrative daring for years. His original approach to comics has provided them with a timeless feel. The meeting with this extraordinary artist will be a unique opportunity to explore the secrets of working on comics. I don’t know about you, but we’re already looking forward to welcoming Darick to the Pyrkon Comic Books Zone!
