Winners of previous editions of Masquerade and the Own Design competition

The Masquerade has evolved from the Great Costume Contest held from 2008 to 2010 at Pyrkon by the crew of the Forbidden Planet website. In 2011, a group of enthusiasts tried to introduce a costume contest as part of a a Pyrkon-related event at the Akumulatory club. From 2012 to 2013, already under the name the Masquerade, the costume contest at Pyrkon was handled by Czeslaw “Czedol” Dolata, and in 2014 by the youth group Umi no Koe. Since 2015, the competition has been supervised by Zofia “Zula” Skowrońska. In 2019, qualifiers for the International Cosplay Champions Cup were conducted during the Masquerade. Since 2022, the Masquerade has become a qualifier for the European Cosplay Gathering championship. At that time, some of the categories were transformed into a separate competition for Custom Design, which is overseen by Aleksandra “Shappi” Tora. As of 2024, the European Cosplay Gathering has evolved into Extreme Cosplay Gathering, and the Masquerade has gained the status of a qualifier for the World Cosplay Championships.
