Pyrkon Cinema is back this year with a plethora of new titles.
7 May 2026
We have something special for the fans of thrillers, horror classics and stop-motion animation. What’s more, we will once again have the pleasure of participating in a film screening with live music!
You’ll get a closer look at ingenious examples of cinema classics such as derived from German expressionism “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, or classified as giallo “Suspiria”. “Reflection in a Dead Diamond” is stylised on the 1970s movies and, although it premiered last year, it can be considered more Bond-like than any Bond film ever! Finally, we will present “The Corpse Bride” – a masterpiece by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson, one of the best stop-motion animations the world has ever known. And the screening will be introduced by our guest Tim Allen, who has worked with Burton on many productions. Below you will find the repertoire of Pyrkon Night Cinema in the Film and TV Zone in Hall 3A.
“Reflection in a Dead Diamond” – more Bond-like than any Bond movie ever created!
A spy thriller inspired by the Italian genre cinema of the 1970s. We follow a retired undercover agent who spends his retired years on the Côte d ‘Azur. His calm and idyllic life is shattered at some point by the disappearance of a seductive neighbor, who evokes memories from a time full of international intrigues, attractive women and wildly dangerous missions. The man decides to get back in the game to find the missing lady and deal with his old enemies. Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani create a stylish and sensual story, full of nostalgia. You don’t just watch this movie – you savour it. And each subsequent bite is better than the previous one.
“Suspiria” – a film for those who like a good thrill and the feeling of chills down their spine!
The 1977 title to this day inspires successive generations of horror filmmakers. Immerse yourself in the story of Suzy – a young ballerina, moving to Freiburg to study at the dance academy. In this prestigious school, students begin to disappear, and it may just be run by a being out of this world. “Suspiria” is more than just a horror movie: it’s a mesmerizing spectacle of emotions, sounds and colors. Dario Argento creates a visual madness that delights and disturbs the viewer all at the same time, and the music stays with you for a long time after the screening!
“Corpse Bride” – Burton’s mixture of horror, charm and melancholy; in cooperation with the Animator Festival!
And now a bit about the movie itself. We find ourselves in a small Victorian town shrouded in a gothic atmosphere, where two young strangers are about to get married. The shy Victor – a descendant of the Van Dort family, cannot remember the words of the oath when rehearsing for the ceremony. Sent away by the Pastor, he goes for a walk in the forest, where he puts on a wedding ring on a protruding stick, which turns out to be the ossified finger of Emilia, the titular corpse bride herself… She recognizes him as her rightful husband and takes him on a journey through the land of the dead, where Victor experiences many interiguing distractions.
The ANIMATOR International Animated Film Festival is the largest animated film festival in this part of Europe. and it is a qualifying event for Oscar® nominations.
At the heart of the festival are competitions attracting both debuting and experienced artists from around the world. This year’s edition is co-created by Tim Allen – an amazing British animator, also a guest of this year’s Pyrkon, as well as a collaborator of Guillermo del Toro and Wes Anderson.
“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (1920) – with live music performed by Czerwie!
Czerwie is a Polish band presenting alternative sounds from the intersection of folk, ethnic, absurd, experimental and contemporary music, as well as theatre and film music. Such a wide stylistic cross-section makes their work unique and difficult to classify. Their original style will surely make the viewing even more memorable!
Now, let’s take a look at our film. At the city fair, the mysterious Dr. Caligari appears with his protégé – Cesar, sleepwalking between life and death. When he wakes from a deep slumber, he predicts the death of one of the onlookers. Then, when the prophecy comes true, a series of mysterious murders begins. The investigation leads to a dark truth about manipulation and madness. The movie is one of the most important films in the history of cinema. It delights audiences with expressionist set design, which creates a world devoid of logic and stability. This year, a band will perform a live concert during the screening at 10:30 pm in the Large Auditorium.
We hope that this year’s repertoire has whetted your appetite. But that’s not all! There are plenty of exciting lectures waiting for you in the Film and TV Zone. Keep your eyes peeled for further information, because there’s more coming soon!
