Magdalena Kozak joins the numerous group of Guests of the Literature Section!
The Literature Section does not cease in its efforts to make this year’s Pyrkon go down in history as exceptionally heavily packed. The proof of this is another person joining the group of Guests! This time, it was broadened by Magdalena Kozak, the author known from the trilogy “Vesper”, “Violet”, “Paskuda” (“The Freak”) and “Łzy Diabła” (“Tears of the Devil”). Her books have received many nominations for the Janusz A. Zajdel’s Polish Fandom Award. The Fantasy Fan Festival Pyrkon 2018 is an excellent opportunity for the writer’s fans to meet her and learn new stuff about her work!
What does Magdalena Kozak do on everyday basis?
The greatest of warriors among Polish fantasy writers. Tested in the heat of battle, at conventions and behind the keyboard. For a professional soldier and paramedic she looks quite innocent.
Magda is a captain in the 2nd Paramedic Squad in Mińsk Mazowiecki. She participated in a mission in Afghanistan twice during the 7th and 9th deployment of the Polish Battalion; there she was wounded by rocket fire. Outside of her military duty she can be seen at ER or in the ambulance.
The most important literary achievements of this year’s Pyrkon’s Guest.
Her literary debut was a novel called “Nighter”, published in 2006 (in 2009 the band Closterkeller created a song of the same title inspired by the events described in the novel, which came out with a very intriguing music video). The books “Renegade” and “Nobody” continue the story described in “Nighter” (all 3 books have been nominated to Janusz A. Zajdel’s Polish Fandom Awards in 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively). Her next novels are “Fiolet” (“Violet”) from 2010, “Paskuda” (“The Freak”) from 2012 and “Łzy Diabła” (“Tears of the Devil”) from 2015. The last one has also been nominated for the aforementioned Award, as well as for the Jerzy Żuławski’s Literary Award. Additionally, Magda is an author of various short stories, two of which – “Sznurki Przeznaczenia” (“Strings of Destiny”, 2008) and “Strasznie mi się podobasz” (“You’re awfully attractive to me”, 2011) were nominated to Zajdel’s reward as well.
In 2016, “Nocarz”, “Renegat” and “Nikt” were released on the english-speaking market as “Nighter”, “Renegade” and “Nobody”; the series also received a collective edition entitled “Vesper”.
