Science Base. A new space in the Science Zone, with lots of attractions and initiatives!

25 April 2025

If you think that the Science Zone can no longer surprise you, it’s… a sure sign that you haven’t seen much yet! We are excited to announce that this year there will be a new space in the Zone – the Science Base.

What is the Science Base?

The idea behind the Science Base is to create a space in the Science Zone, which – like the One Ring – will gather science-related booths set up by various entities: museums, science clubs or associations.

Such interactive booths are supposed to encourage Pyrkon-goers to explore various topics, phenomena and to conduct their own observations. The variety of experiences is a guarantee that everyone will find something interesting there. And – who knows – maybe visiting the Science Base this year will make you discover your passion for science itself?

Look for this amazing space at level 0 in the PCC (next to the entrance to the Great Hall).

Archaeological Museum in Biskupin

Let’s travel in time together with the Archaeological Museum in Biskupin. How far back, you ask? You’ll see! At this booth, you will not only be introduced to the activities of the institution, but you will also go on a journey into the past! You will see everyday objects from a century ago, listen to a story about prehistoric outfits and – how fascinating – archaeology itself.

At the appointed hours, there will be a discussion entitled “Grey or colorful, wool or linen outfits? Or what clothes were like in prehistory ’. There will also be demonstrations of spinning and weaving selvages. You will also be able to relax and spend a moment getting acquainted with old games and pastimes.

The SimLE Science Club from the Gdańsk University of Technology –

SimLE
SimLE

SimLE is a science club that has been bringing together ambitious students from all over the Tri-City since 2013. It was created at the Gdańsk University of Technology in response to the needs of the labor market and the expectations of employers, as well as students and graduates. They are not an ordinary scientific circle – SimLE is an ecosystem in which young engineers advance on many levels. Their primary goal is the practical education of students through the implementation of complex engineering projects that cover every stage of the process – from the first idea, through the design and construction phase, to the final implementation of the solution.

Each project is a unique opportunity to create something that can really change the future. From the construction of autonomous surface vehicles and probing rockets, through stratospheric balloons to scientific and research projects and an Arctic drone – we give students the opportunity to develop their skills in the most dynamic areas of modern technology.

In the Science Base, they will appear with their booth, where they will present their projects (e.g. a model of a probing rocket made by the members of the club), which they will be very happy to tell you about.

LEM Wrocław Motosport

LEM
LEM

LEM is a group of over 60 students who share a common passion. For several years, members have been meeting after classes to create innovative machines that have the chance to change the image of Polish automotive industry and electromobility. They design and build electric vehicles, as well as take part in international competitions for young innovators and enthusiasts.

To date, LEM Wrocław Motorsport has built 9 electric two-wheelers. Their flagship projects are: the first electric racing motorcycle in Poland – LEM Photon, 4th place winner in the final race during the international MotoStudent competition in Spain – LEM Tachyon and the first electric buggy off-road vehicle in  Europe – LEM SSV.

They are currently in the executive phase of a motorcycle that will face rivals from dozens of countries at the student World Championships. In their team, they infect everyone with their passion for the automotive industry and give students the opportunity to enter the world of motorsport and become part of our internationally appreciated vehicles.

If you are interested in the automotive industry and want to hear about its secrets, be sure to direct your steps to level 0 in the PCC and visit their booth! We guarantee that the whatever you learn there will be truly meaty.

Geophysicsis, a team of scientists who explore our planet like the heroes of an adventure saga! From earthquakes to auroras, they explore, measure, and analyze to unravel the mysteries of nature. If you love science, exploration and the secrets that lie underground and at the ends of the earth, come and talk to them!

We have prepared a free entrance to the ice cave in Spitsbergen and tips on how to avoid Hellboy’s complexion.

We know that the epic adventures at the convention are so immersive that it’s easy to forget about the sun. But do you want to go home with a face as red as the aforementioned half-demon sent by Rasputin? Come to our booth and find out how to avoid sunburn, what UV radiation really is and how to take care of your skin to look like Aquaman and not like a resident of hell! We have a solid dose of knowledge, trivia and a few surprises in stock for you! One of them – we can already tell you – is the lecture “Healthy tanning”, which will be conducted by Agnieszka Czerwińska, Ph.D, Eng.

And if you fancy an arctic adventure without frostbite, put on your VR goggles and travel to South Spitsbergen, where the Hornsund Polish Polar Station is waiting for you! Take a look inside the ice cave – no need to crawl, but the experience is fabulous! Meet the inhabitants of the Arctic – reindeer, polar foxes, and maybe even… a bear?! Do you think you know the secrets of the Arctic? Test yourself by playing the Polar Wheel of Fortune and win a prize (start the fun at any hour on the hour)! You can also prove to us that you are better than many a geologist and that you can distinguish a rock from… head cheese.

Let the Science Base delight you!t the Science Base delight you!

You can see for yourself that a solid dose of juicy knowledge is waiting for you in the Science Base, which will be provided to you by people who know the topics presented from the inside out. It’s the first year of this fantastic initiative, and it’s already really impressive… we’re excited just thinking about what awaits us in the future!

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves! Let’s stop at June and the fact that during this year’s Pyrkon you must have look at level 0 in the PCC!
