The Three Game Masters are back in the RPG Zone!

7 April 2025

Prepare your dice, sharpen your pencils and get ready for some unforgettable meetings in the RPG Zone! This year, the real legends of the roleplaying game world will visit us again: Chris Birch, Grant Howitt and Maz Hamilton. They are a trio of creators who redefine what RPG can be. Ready to dive into their worlds?

Chris Birch – the man who builds worlds

Chris has already appeared at Pyrkon once and told us about his journey from the music and fashion industry to the world of board games and RPGs. He also lifted the veil of secrecy regarding “Dream and Machines,” “Cohors Cthulhu,” and “Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Adventures in Ankh-Morpork.” This year, he returns to reveal even more of the secrets behind Modiphius Entertainment – a publishing house that has won the hearts of fans.

A few words about him? Chris together with his wife Rita created Modiphius in 2013 and has not slowed down since then – from the original “Achtung! Cthulhu” through exciting licensed projects – Matt Leacock’s“Thunderbirds ”, “Dune”, “Fallout”, “The Elder Scrolls Skyrim”, “Homeworld: Fleet Command” and many more.

Grant Howitt – because the narrative is to be played around with

If you’ve ever played “Honey Heist” and laughed while trying to steal treasures as bear criminals, you already know our guest’s work. His talent for creating innovative and often absurdly immersive RPG systems has made him one of the most important figures in the industry.

Grant, together with Chris Taylor, is responsible for “Heart: the City Beneath”, “Spire: the City Must Fall”, “DIE: the RPG” and “Eat the Reich” – games that explore the themes of rebellion, oppression and deep emotions. If you want to find out how the most extraordinary RPG worlds are born, you can’t miss its meeting at Pyrkon!

Maz Hamilton – Guardian of chaos and order

Somewhere between crazy ideas and perfectly polished RPG textbooks are Maz Hamilton – one of the key personas at Rowan, Rook and Decard. It is thanks to their work that games such as “Heart: The City Beneath” or “Spire: The City Must Fall” have turned from loose notes into stunningly beautiful publications.

MAZ not only care about the organization and publishing quality, but also about the creative ideas of their team finding their place in the world of role-playing games. At Pyrkon, they will talk about what the RPG publishing process looks like and what makes some ideas hit the shelves, and others die in the depths of a Google drive. If you’ve ever dreamed of releasing your own game – this meeting is for you!

There is also every indication that Grant and Maz will not be the only Rowan, Rook and Decard representatives to visit this year’s Pyrkon. It seems that a larger group is coming to visit, so it will be a great opportunity to learn how RRD creates and publishes its own games from the inside.

RPG without borders only at Pyrkon!

Pyrkon is not only a fan convention, but also a meeting spot for artists who have been shaping our favorite worlds for years. Chris Birch, Grant Howitt and Maz Hamilton are names that every lover of role-playing games knows. Their presence in the RPG Zone is an opportunity not only to listen to fascinating stories, but also to ask questions, get autographs and find out what’s new in the world of role-playing games.

So, dear adventurers, see you in the RPG Zone – because the best stories are written together!
