What interesting things can you find in the Comic Books Zone?

25 May 2025

Will comic book fans be bored? Certainly not! Even if they try hard, around every corner of the Comic Books Zone there will be a lecture, a meeting with an interesting guest or an opportunity to get a unique drawing! However, we know that it is difficult to follow all the Pyrkon novelties – that’s why we are giving you a summary in a nutshell!

Sara Pichelli

An experienced comic book creator who started her career in animation. However, she quickly discovered that drawing was her real passion. She made her debut in this industry in the Italian publishing house Cut-Up, where she co-created her first comic – Sesso col coltello.

In 2008, she started working with Marvel, where she worked on many different characters, but above all – on Miles Morales. She was the first one to illustrate the Ultimate Spiderman series about this spider. At the Convention, you will be able to meet Sara during a Q&A, as well as two autograph and drawing sessions! Look for details in Pyrkon’s program.

Rafa Sandoval

When it comes to superheroes, another artist will come visit us from abroad. Rafa began his adventure with comics in 2007, working for the Spanish branch of Disney, but he quickly moved to work with Marvel and his career gained momentum. He worked on comics with Iron Man, The Avengers and many other well-known characters until 2013 – when he moved to DC Comics. He was the one who created such series as Catwoman or Flash. He is currently working on a completely new release – the DC Comics Absolute series, in which the main character will be Absolute Superman. If you are intrigued by Rafa’s work or dreaming of a drawing done by him on your favorite comic book – be sure to visit the Q&A and an autograph session with him!

It’s time to move to the Polish backyard – Wydział 7

If you have ever looked for good comics by Polish authors, which are worth reading – you have definitely come by Wydział 7! Tomasz Kontny, one of the authors of the series, will appear at this year’s Pyrkon, as well as Jerzy Łanuszewski, who is currently working on the RPG system based on the aforementioned W7. You will spend time with them at the author’s meeting, in the RPG Zone, as well as in the Workshop Zone – there is a lot to choose from!

“Produkt” – a few words about the iconic magazine

Did you know that Polish comic book history has many interesting creations to its credit? Over the years, the Polish comic book market has been full of magazines, but only a few of them have won the hearts of readers. One of them is Produkt, whose history will be told by Michał “Śledziu” Śledziński, on whose comics a whole generation of readers grew up, and Marcin Łuczak, the duo responsible for last year’s return of the legendary Produkt! If you are interested in what its beginnings were or what else may surprise readers – you must visit one of their program events! In addition to the meeting about Produkt, it is also worth going to a meeting with Michał – who celebrates the 30th anniversary of his artistic work this year.

Przemysław “TRUST” Truściński

Did you think you planned your entire stay in the Comic Books Zone? Nothing could be more wrong! If you want to get a signature or a drawing from one of the most outstanding creators of the Polish comic book, who is responsible, among others, for the original appearance of Geralt for the game “The Witcher”, released by CD Projekt Red – you need to come to his autograph session! It is also worth coming to his comic book lecture, where he will talk about how he perceives his illustrations. You will also meet him at a lecture in the Science Zone, where, he will be creating drawings live. You can be sure of one thing – they will be full of surrealism, oneirism and, of course, fantasy!

Tomasz Samojlik

As it turns out – the combination of the scientific sphere with the comic book sphere is not as rare as it might seem. Tomasz Samojlik, because that’s who we’re talking about, is a habilitated doctor of biological sciences by education and if anyone is looking for inspiration how to weave science into a comic book – they’ve just found it! He is the author of many children’s comics about animals, including Ryjówka przeznaczenia or Umarły Las.  This year, you will be able to exchange a few words with him – and, as befits a comic book author – get your dream drawing by him during an autograph session. Tomasz will also give a lecture on how to create an interesting hero, and in the Science Zone he will talk about the biology of fantastic animals. It is definitely worth visiting his program events if you are hungry for knowledge and curiosities on non-obvious topics!

Marta Falkowska

Television nowadays seems to be an inseparable element of everyday life for many people, and if one program does not suit us – we can easily change it. In the past, however, this was not the case, and individual stations were watched by thousands of people. Marta Falkowska, who has been a faithful comic book artist for years, as well as the editor of Warchlaki and the zin Monstwór, will talk about the phenomenon of one of them – RTL7.  She is also the author of the Oto Tosia children’s series as well as coordinating and co-creating the anthology entitled Własnym głosem. Herstorie aborcyjne.

Ottoich

Are you interested in topics of occultism in Europe? Or whether our world is what it seems… to us? If so, then you must definitely attend one of the lectures given by Ottoich! If you want to find out what the perception matrix is, or what occult beliefs look like in Europe – his program events may interest you, because he is famous in his work for his grotesque approach and faith that time is a dynamic element of the system.

Unka Odya

She was born shortly after the Chernobyl disaster, and scientists say the two events are not related. But are they really not? You decide. Unka creates comics, loves cartoons and horror movies, and professionally devotes herself to creating games. At Pyrkon, she will talk about what convergence she found between Polish folk beliefs and Lovecraft’s work, as well as about combining comics with her passion – love for horrors.

 Aga “TUTU” Szymańska

Aga is a classic millennial – born in ‘93. She is a woman of many talents, because in her career she worked in a tea shop, at Empik, and even as a tattoo artist. She drew a comic book called Cienie Lasu and we know that she loves cats and black, ground coffee more than anything. At Pyrkon, she will take part in a panel about various paths leading to the creation of a comic book, where she will talk about her experiences and will certainly share something interesting with the participants!

Roch Urbaniak

Roch is a big fan of Star Wars and RPG systems. In 2011, he graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. His work from head to toe is full of myths, legends and pop culture. There is also a hint of excitement there as well. And you know what else will be exciting? The number of program events that Roch will take part in at Pyrkon! If you want to learn how to become an artist, who invented the appearance of Darth Vader or just get an autograph – we advise you to urgently study the program of this year’s Convention and plan a visit to the Comic Books Zone and visit the Artists and Collectors’ Alley. Those who pay attention will certainly not miss the fact that you will also meet him in the RPG Zone.

To (almost) finish the summary – Long live (or dead) Polish superheroes!

That is, a huge panel during which a large group of great comic book creators will consider whether superheroes are still alive or are relics of the past? In the era of the Marvel and DC crisis, the teams responsible for comics will tell about the state of Polish superheroes: “Lis” (Dariusz “Krabowy” Stańczyk, Jakub Oleksów, Alan “ALGOYO” Gajewski), “Ćma” (Tomasz Grodecki, Kacper Wilk, Tomasz R. Borkowski) and “Incognito” (Piotr Czarnecki and Łukasz Ciżmowski).

Have you managed to visit all the lectures you planned? Check out what else is waiting for you!

In hall 5A, as part of the Fantastic AMU, you will find a large Comic Book Reading Room, but be warned –  when you start reading, you will not leave there soon, and Pyrkon lasts only three days!

What’s more, the Artists and Collectors’ Alley on the mezzanine of hall 5 will have its comic book section again! You will discover a lot of novelties there – it is here that you will find booths where you can get autographs and drawings, but also booths where you can buy comics and more! In addition to our guests, a group of Polish independent artists and comic book artists will be waiting for you there!

A word of summary

This year’s Comic Books Zone abounds with interesting program events and guests worth visiting. Only some of them are included in this text, so if you don’t want to miss any comic book gems – the Pyrkon program is just waiting to fill your June plans!
