ZAQ – a Japanese singer, composer and celebrity at this year’s Pyrkon!

Some artists are hard to categorise as one genre only. Those, who instead of following the crowd create their own way of doing things: dynamic, fresh and with an original flair. One of those artists will join us at Pyrkon this year.
One of this years’ guests is ZAQ – a Japanese singer, composer and songwriter, known to anime fans from series such as “Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma”, “Classroom of the Elite” or “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions”.
The adventure begins
ZAQ’s music journey began very early – she started to learn the piano at the age of 3. While at first she was inspired by rock bands and the anime scene, her own style quickly eluded genre conventions.
She’s mostly self-taught: her compositions are not limited by the traditional music theory, which makes them fresh and unpredictable. Before she became famous, ZAQ had to face many failed auditions – it’s the determination that allowed her to rise above it and become the artist we know.
Debut
ZAQ debuted solo in 2012 with “Sparkling Daydream”, which became the opening to “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions” – and immediately drew the fans’ attention.
Since then her music regularly shows up in popular anime. You can hear it in:

ZAQ – more than just her own tracks
While ZAQ is mostly known for her own songs, she does much more than that in the anime world. For years, she has been composing and writing tracks for other artists, co-creating the sound of numerous anime series.
Her music appeared in “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions”, where ZAQ was responsible for many tracks – both her own, as well as sung by the show’s heroines. Some of those titles were: “INSIDE IDENTITY”, “Van!shment Th!s World” or “February Magic”.
Her works appeared also in many other productions, such as:

- “Future Diary”
- “Non Non Biyori”
- “Bocchi the Rock!”

In the new anime season
ZAQ’s creativity is not slowing down – the artist is still active in new and upcoming anime titles. In the fourth season of “Classroom of the Elite” we will hear her again – this time in the series’ ending.
The anime itself is about the students of a prestigious school, where a seemingly-perfect education system is hiding rules that are much more complicated. Classes compete with each other for points and status. Success, however, is determined not only by academic achievements, but also by schemes, manipulation, and the ability to read other people. The story focuses on the relationships between the characters, their aspirations and decisions, which often have great consequences.
The season started April 1st, so it’s a great moment to catch up on the series – and soon, we’ll see you at Pyrkon!
