Guest of Pyrkon 2024, Luke Crane, to show you how to break patterns and create RPG games

Naturalistic, unconventional, unusual – this is the way to describe the works created by Luke Crane. Our guest this year will appear at the RPG Zone and show you how changing the way of thinking about the design of role-playing game mechanics can affect the way gameplay is experienced.

Nobody expects the Mouse Guard!

Luke Crane let himself be sucked into the world of role-playing games at a young age.

In 2002, he decided to publish his first proprietary RPG system called The Burning Wheel, which consisted of two volumes – a rulebook describing the rules of gameplay and a guide to character creation. His debut resonated in the world of role-playing games, due to the way the beliefs and morals of player characters affect the development of the plot. Over the next twenty years, he created several other systems including Burning Empires, FreeMarket, Torchbearer, Inheritance, Miseries & Misfortunes and Mouse Guard.

Of those, the last game is one that deserves special attention. It became a three-time “silver winner” at the “ENNIE” awards, won the “Origins Awards” in the “best RPG” category, and was nominated for the “Diana Jones” award for “best RPG”. No wonder, then, that Mouse Guard also became available in Polish distribution, executed by the Cube Factory of Ideas publishing house.

Meet Luke Crane during Pyrkon 2024!

Are you interested in the process of RPG development? Do you like to experiment with rules or create new solutions? Or perhaps you have played one of the games whose author is our guest? Be sure to come meet him at this year’s Pyrkon in the RPG Zone!

Z wykształcenia technik weterynarii, z braku laku – student informatyki.
