Writer, publicist, a man of the Road, a fan and a lunatic, or in other words Jakub Ćwiek is coming to Pyrkon!
We don’t have to introduce this writer to habitual Pyrkon attendees. Once again the Literature Section’s group of Guests will boast the presence of Jakub Ćwiek, the author of, among others, a popular series about Loki, the god of lies. Ćwiek is, however, not just a great writer, but also an incredibly colorful individual. Will you come and find out how he’ll surprise you this time?
A jack of all trades
Writer, columnist, man of the Road, fan, lunatic – this is how Jakub Ćwiek describes himself and is never sure of what order these natures appear. And that also paints a picture of his current work. He was first active in the SF fandom, in the Silesian SF&F Club. He debuted on the literature scene with the bestselling series of books about the Norse god of lies, Loki. Within 13 years (not at all unlucky!) since his debut he has been involved, among others, in theater, screenwriting, comic books, music… He also does not shy away from experiments in his writing, happily drawing on works of culture (the inspiration for his Chłopcy series was the story of Peter Pan), and has also tried his hand at new genres, such as crime fiction (Grimm City) or travelog (Przez Stany POP-Świadomości).
New challenges
With his newest book, titled Zawisza Czarny, he returned to the Dreszcz universe, at the same time taking the diagnosis of contemporary Polish society. This has sparked lively discussions, as you will find basically every group imaginable in his satirical image of today’s Poland.
Right now he is developing his stage work, performing as part of the stand-up group Brothells, which is made up of him, Maciej Linke and Michał Pałubski. This does not mean that Jakub is sidelining his literature career – he’ll gladly tell you about his publishing plans for the near and far future. And those, as always, are impressive and pique the curiosity of faithful fans.
