Melodies of the World on the Outdoor Stage: The Song Laboratory in a showstopping performance
It will get loud again! The Outdoor Stage will once again feature melodies of spiritual sound to the rhythm of mystical folk, ethno and world. We wish to invite you to an unforgettable performance by “the Song Laboratory” – a group of exceptional female artists who have been on the music scene since 2013!
Who are the artists of Laboratorium Pieśni?
Laboratorium Pieśni is an unusual group of singers who not only interpret traditional polyphonic songs, but also arrange them in an amazingly original way. Their repertoire includes songs from all corners of the world, Polish, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian, Serbian, Albanian, to Bosnian, Georgian, Scandinavian, Occitan and many others. It’s a true sonic journey through different cultures and traditions.
They perform Songs of the World both a’capella, highlighting the beauty of human voices without music, and accompanied by shaman drums and other ethnic instruments such as shruti box, bells, a flute, a kalimba, resting bells and gongs. Their unique approach to music allows them to bring a new arrangement to traditional songs, a space for voice improvisations, inspired by the sounds of nature, often intuitive, wild and feminine.
Their song material goes through a fascinating journey from the source, brought from different regions of Poland, Europe and the World by the members of the band, to finally appear in a new version – traditional or enriched, arranged.
On the boards of the theater of the World
The Song Laboratory is not only a musical ensemble, they are also creators of performances in which traditional songs tell the story of off-going rituals. Over the years, they have surprised the listeners with their creativity, presenting shows such as “Seasons of the Year” (2012) and “Empty Nights – Songs that are Coming to an End” (2014).
The band’s extraordinary passion has resulted in participation in a number of projects, such as recording music for the painted film “The Peasants” – a Polish candidate for an Oscar, working with respected Polish musicians, including Kayah and Lukasz L.U.C. Rostkowski, or participating in concerts under the artistic direction of Andrzej Smolik.
The band’s awards and achievements
Laboratorium Pieśni’s album titled. “Rasti” was nominated for the 2020 Fryderyk Award, in the “Album of the Year – Music of the world” category. The band also won the Triton Award for the Greatest Personality of the 2014 FAMA Festival and the City of Gdansk Scholarship in 2015 and 2018.
