Are you curious whether traveling at the speed of light and teleportation are possible? Are you fascinated by different beliefs? Or, maybe, you’re wondering how the aurora borealis is formed? These and many other questions are answered in the Science Zone! Scientists, well-known communicators and popularisers of science visit the Pyrkon Fan Convention to explain – in a simple and understandable way – different scientific theories, intricate equations and other issues causing sleepless nights in science fiction fans and other curious folk.
The Science Zone of the Pyrkon Fan Convention is the winner of the 20th edition of the Popularizer of Science competition in the “Team” category!
We are pleased to announce that the Science Zone of the Pyrkon Fan Convention has become the winner of the 20th edition of the prestigious Popularizer of Science competition in the “Team” category. This is a great distinction for us and proof that our passion for popularizing science is appreciated by a wide audience.
This important distinction spurs us to continue, and motivates us to create even more interesting and engaging initiatives. We are proud to contribute to spreading knowledge in an accessible and inspiring way.
We would like to thank everyone who co-creates the Science Zone and supports our activities. This distinction is a joint success of all of us – speakers, participants and the entire Pyrkon community. Together we show that science, fiction and fantasy go hand in hand!
About the “Popularizer of Science” competition
As you can read in the post announcing the finalists: The Popularizer of Science Competition is organized by the Science in Poland website, published by the Polish Press Agency Foundation. It rewards people and institutions that popularize science, help others to get to know and better understand the phenomena occurring around humans, raise awareness regarding the results of the latest scientific research, share scientific knowledge and passion with people, regardless of their age, level of education and professional career of the recipients.
You can read about all the winners of the “Popularizer of Science” competition in an article that appeared on the Science in Poland website – at this address (in Polish). In the text you will read that: the members of the jury awarded our team for “creating a niche at the popular Pyrkon Fan Convention to popularize science”. They also emphasized “high quality and adherence to their principles”.
The Science Zone is not just lectures!

Here, you will also find the Science Station, which gives you the opportunity to talk to the guests and ask them questions for which you did not have the time or courage before.
We also have a lot of attractions prepared together with universities, NGOs, museums, science clubs and other units popularizing science. All this is waiting for you at the Science Station.
There’s more accompanying events, such as science-related workshops in the Workshop Zone or outdoor demonstration booths. From an operating Copper Smelter, to booths with physics experiments, to the construction site of a log house built using traditional methods!
What’s in store for Pyrkon 2026?
The Science Zone is a place where science and fiction join forces to popularize the pursuit of knowledge in an interesting and pleasant way. Come and immerse yourself in a fascinating world where the boundaries between reality and imagination become fluid.

The Science Station is an amazing place in the Science Zone, which first appeared at Pyrkon in 2019 and was very warmly received. It will provide you with the opportunity to meet and talk to invited guests and speakers – specialists and enthusiasts of various fields of science. If you are still bothered by any questions after the lecture, and for some reason you did not ask them at the time, now you will have the perfect opportunity to exchange a few words with the lecturer. So, if – like Annabeth Chase or Artemis Fowl – you want to dispel your doubts and expand the knowledge in your field of interest, then be sure to stop by the Science Station. And don’t be afraid to talk to our guests!
